Founded in the 13th century, the Nikolaiviertel (St Nicholas Quarter) is the reconstructed historical heart of the German capital, Berlin, located five minutes away from Alexanderplatz. It is bounded by the river Spree, Rathausstraße, Spandauer Straße and Mühlendamm. The Nikolai Church (Nikolaikirche) lies at the centre of the district.

The small area is famous for its traditional German restaurants and bars. Between 1997 and 1999 all the houses were refurbished, giving the area an unmistakable appearance.
